pbsPBS Video recently began publishing free, full-length shows to their website. They already have dozens to choose from and continue adding more each week.

A few of their more interesting video series include:

NOVA – Videos from this high-quality show examine the secrets of science.

The Economy – Episodes examining the current economic crisis and how its affecting the country.

The Presidents – Profiles on the lives of American presidents including Roosevelt, Carter, Nixon, and Truman.

America at War – An examination of modern-day conflicts with other countries and the issues war raises.

Julia Child – The quintessential French-style chef shares her cooking secrets.

These are just a few of the collections that stood out to me. There are so many more free videos to explore, so take a look.

Oh, very good! Of course, we got rid of the TV so I wouldn’t watch it. Now we have DSL….and Julia Child!!

I tried to watch some Masterpiece episodes but was denied access since the videos are only available for streaming in the US.

Thanks for all your good blog posts, though. I enjoy reading them and look forward to more in the future.

    Thanks for your comments.

Kristin, I think you made a smart choice…I’d take DSL over cable any day!

Savant, I have to disagree. I think that the nation’s problem with obesity comes from a lack of knowledge. People don’t know how to cook and don’t know what’s in their food; they just pick up whatever looks good from the local drive-through. Cooking shows can help people learn about nutrition and make their own healthier choices.

Hilary, sorry to hear that the videos are only viewable in the U.S. I hate when sites place restrictions like that!

HELLO. I’M IN MEXICO AND WATCH ONLY PBS TO KEEP ABREAST OF WHAT’S HAPPENING WORLDWIDE VIA MCNEIL/LEHRER AND OTHER PROGRAMS. I SAW THE “A FIGHTER PILOT’S STORY” BY QUENTIN C AANENSON PRODUCED BY KEN BURNS SOME TIME AGO. I TOO WAS A P-47 FIGHTER PILOT IN WWll AND WOULD LIKE TO PURCHASE THE FILM TO SHOW TO MY GRAND CHILDREN BECAUSE IT ‘TELLS’ MORE OF THE ‘STORY’ OF WHAT WE DID AND HOW WE SURVIVED, THAN I COULD BY TALKING ABOUT IT. IS IT POSSIBLE TO BUY IT AND HAVE IT SENT TO A STATESIDE ADDRESS? I AWAIT YOUR REPLY WITH MANY THANKS. GERRY TELDON
